All life is change; the kaleidoscopic trans-formations-of-forms. It is constant and continuous exchange. Human life, as part of this larger life process, is a process of self-transformations. But human life, paradoxically, is also resistance to change. It is driven by a deep abiding fear of our own limitations, our mortality and, a powerful resistance to know what we know that we know that we don't want to know. Through this refusal, this fear of being conscious, we create a split within our self; we create an-other of our self. This in effect is a denial and rejection, a being unconscious. It requires self-deception, a pretending to be what we know to be not true. This unconsciousness of what this 'other' has to say results in intra-psychic conflict and our self-defeating ways. It is in this way that the creation of dysfunctions and dis-ordering within the psyche and in the world takes place.

Depth Psychotherapy and Counseling in its essential aspect is self-study. It is the seeing into this paradoxical condition. It is the continual incremental acquiring of awareness; the spiraling inward into Self to deepen and expand consciousness. Through this process, we learn to overcome resistance; to overcome the willful unwillingness to assert our will. We unleash a richer more powerful potential to relate to our feelings and emotions, to others, and to act creatively in-the-world, undoing our dilemmas.
